When you have an insurance claim, you need to know the players involved in the claim process.  Once you have a claim, you may come into contact with many insurance and construction industry professionals.  You should familiarize yourself with whom these people may be and if they work for the insurance company or you.  Also, you need to be aware how different people you hire may effect your policy obligations and final payment.  Below is a helpful list of some people you may meet while having an insurance claim:

Independent Adjuster v. Public Adjuster

An independent adjuster works for the insurance company.  When you file your claim, the insurance company investigates the claim by sending its adjuster to access the damages and to write an estimate of repair if necessary.  A lot of times, the assessment of your loss by this adjuster determines if your claim is denied or paid.  Additionally, this adjuster’s estimate may be significantly below what it will actually cost to repair your damages.

Public adjusters work for you and not the insurance company.  Public adjusters are independent third parties that help in creating an estimate of repairs that reflects the costs associated with hiring a contractor.  A public adjuster adds a benefit to your claim, but, unfortunately, a lawyer is sometimes needed to obtain the repair estimate  value your public adjuster prepared and to enforce your rights under your policy.  Middagh Law, P.L.L.C. works with your public adjuster to ensure the valuation estimated by your public adjuster is utilized and the terms of your policy and Florida law are upheld and enforced in obtaining coverage and a settlement for your claim.
